How does KAIZEA detect load spikes?

KAIZEA automatically combines two signals into your Load Index: session RPE — exertion (1–10) × training duration — and the daily wellness check-in. When the value crosses the configured threshold, the load traffic light flags the player automatically — before the load turns into a risk.

The so-called training–injury prevention paradox shows that high but progressively built chronic load is actually more protective than sudden spikes (Gabbett, 2016). The underlying session-RPE method is validated as a hardware-free measurement approach (Foster et al., Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2001). Do I need hardware to detect load spikes?

No. KAIZEA works entirely on RPE (Rating of Perceived Exertion) — validated per Foster et al. (Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2001). Players enter their perceived exertion after each session, which takes 10 seconds and requires no GPS trackers or heart rate sensors.

Can KAIZEA prevent injuries?

Does the load traffic light work for youth teams too?
